Shock Waves: Shock waves with high pressure amplitude represent a short-duration acoustic pressure wave consisting of a compression phase (positive pressure pulse) followed by a rarefaction phase (negative pressure pulse).
Pneumatic Shockwave Therapy (PSWT) machines are an innovative treatment modality that is rapidly garnering recognition within the field of physiotherapy. Harnessing the power of high-energy acoustic waves, these innovative devices stimulate healing and provide unparalleled pain relief for an extensive range of musculoskeletal conditions. By inducing micro-lesions in the tissue, pneumatic shockwave therapy (PSWT) machines activate the body's natural healing response. Backed by evidence, these machines offer a safe and effective therapeutic option, proving effective in addressing diverse conditions such as plantar fascitis, gluteal, hamstring, tennis elbow, achilles & patellar tendinopathies and chronic pain. Elevate your physiotherapy practice with the transformative capabilities of PSWT machines.
PNEUMATIC SHOCKWAVE THERAPY MACHINE
Acoustic Wave Therapy, also referred to as Shockwave Therapy, is a non-invasive treatment that harnesses the body's natural healing mechanisms to tighten tissues. This innovative therapy involves the application of acoustic waves that temporarily increase cellular membrane permeability, promoting better substance exchange between cells. By enhancing vasodilation and vascularization, it also improves blood flow to all layers of tissue, including the connective tissue. The primary goal of shockwave therapy is to stimulate the formation of new connective tissue, leading to a reduction in cellulite appearance and an overall improvement in skin health and aesthetics. This treatment induces tissue tightening, which can enhance the overall health and appearance of the treated area.

RADIAL SHOCKWAVES
Radial shockwaves are emitted through a pneumatic mechanism. Compressed air fires a projectile, which in turn strikes a metal tool called a transmitter. This impact emits a wave that is transmitted radially, dissipating its intensity as it goes through the different tissue layers. For this reason, it is recommended for use on more superficial structures, such as plantar fascia and superficial tendinopathies (tennis elbow, patellar and Achilles tendinopathies).
The Smart-wave Industries' radial shockwave has several transmitters that allow for a treatment that is more precise and more comfortable for the patient. The 9 mm steel transmitter is designed for treating acupuncture points or small finger joints. The 20 mm vibrating transmitter is used in myofascial treatment. The 15 mm titanium transmitter is designed for treating deeper structures.
Important points to consider when choosing a Shockwave Therapy Machine
1. Technology: Radial
Pneumatic shockwave therapy machines use two types of technology: radial shockwave therapy and focused shockwave therapy. Radial shockwave therapy creates pressure waves that go radially through the tissue
2. Energy Output
The intensity of the shockwaves transmitted to the target tissue is determined by the energy output of a PSWT machine, which is measured in bars or joules per square millimeter (J/mm2). Lower energy levels may serve for surface disorders; however, higher energy settings may be required for deeper musculoskeletal issues.
3. User-Friendly
A simple PSWT machine can make a significant impact on shortening treatment processes and improving patient comfort. Look for equipment with simple controls, clear displays, and treatment parameters that can be customized.
4. Portability
Consider the PSWT machine's mobility and maneuverability, especially if your practice requires frequent movement. A lightweight and compact piece of equipment is easy to move and position, allowing for greater flexibility in treatment situations.
